Recipient Peter Von Der Vellen

18 year old Peter is the son of Chris and Jeff Von Der Vellen and a resident of Dayton. He is a 2011 graduate of Alter High School and will be a freshman this fall at The Ohio State University. He is currently majoring in Finance.

Peter dedicates himself to both his studies and his school itself. He has participated in numerous fundraisers, one of which involved raffling off a goat! He volunteers in the admissions office, open house, and the annual AlterFest. Peter led Alter High School as the Optimist Club President during his Senior Year.

Peter participates in a variety of clubs and sports including; National Honors Society, the Alter Optimist Club, which he started, and Football. He has also traveled to Harlan, Kentucky and New Orleans to volunteer his services to others. Peter has lived in 3 states and 2 countries. He is also the only one in his family with curly hair. Peter’s greatest achievement has been sticking to his values and principles during a time when young adults are bombarded with contradicting ideas and choices.
